Fingerboard Breakthrough

Do Better Guitars Make Better Players?
Does the guitar you’ve chosen help make you a better player? Is your technique, or even your songwriting, influenced by the gear you have near?
>> Technology versus art...

7 Killer Guitar Gizmos You MUST Have!
We asked a few Friends of the Fire, all of them accomplished artists, authors and renowned gear addicts in their own right, to help us put together a list of the 7 most murderously desirable guitar gizmos out there.

Playing Old Guitar Strings Stings
Spend thirty seconds playing a guitar strung with old, corroded strings and you’ll never want to strum on old strings again — unless you’re strange and lazy like me. I haven’t changed the strings on my acoustic guitar for over a year. Every song I’ve ever recorded was tracked with crusty strings. Every song I’ve ever recorded sounds like crap, too, but let’s not get judgy.

Taking Notes

We recently heard Quincy Jones recall a saying from back in the day: “Keep your music pad and pencil out, because if God knocks you’d better get it before he takes it down the street to Mancini!”

In one sense the Q quote is a tip of the hat to those uncommon talents, such as Henry Mancini, who seem to be granted more than their fair share of creative gifts. But the core message is that you better be ready to catch musical ideas when they come your way or brother, they’re gone.

Hundreds of TF students are breaking through to new and better approaches on their fretboard from Howard Morgen's Fingerboard Breakthrough.

Which is why we're offering a Last Chance on discount pricing for those of you still wondering what all the fuss is about.

Morgen’s system for applying harmonic concepts and visualizing the fingerboard stems from over 40 years of study, arranging, performance and teaching. “As guitarists, we've all experienced that sense of frustration and helplessness that occurs when, while playing, the fingerboard starts to shut down, dissolving into an elusive maze of strings and frets. Just what is it that makes viewing musical relationships on guitar so difficult? Actually, there are a number of factors all of which we’re going to address and remedy in Fingerboard Breakthrough.”

Word on the street...
"I love how Howard takes one chord shape and moves it across the fretboard. Many courses show the relationship of chords along the length of the fretboard, but Fingerboard Breakthrough is the first I am aware of that shows how chords can be played in one position! It was an 'Ah Ha' moment for me!"

NEW COURSE RELEASE! FREE MODERATED COURSE BLOG/WORKSHOP!

The art of orchestration and ensemble playing is a bit of a challenge for most guitar players, especially those that don't play out all that much. We guitarists tend to either play too much, play conflicting parts, play in the same register, play the same exact voicing as the other guitarist, or play when we really shouldn't be playing anything at all. We've all been there and that’s what Guitar Cubed is all about – a course of study focused solely on orchestrating multiple guitar parts in contemporary music.

Guitar Cubed is organized into a dozen lesson sets where each set features a different contemporary arrangement for bass, drums and three guitar parts. Lesson sets are comprised of eight in-depth video lessons examining every nuance of the three guitar parts, along with the why and how they work so well together.

Playing with other musicians, and making great music, is the ultimate reward for all of the practice hours that we guitarists invest in our craft. Guitar Cubed will exponentially increase that reward by teaching you how to listen and how to orchestrate your parts.
